Sarracenia purpurea, commonly known as the 'Purple Pitcher Plant', is a fascinating carnivorous plant native to North America. It is primarily found in acidic bogs, wetlands, and peatlands across the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. With its distinctive appearance and remarkable adaptations, Sarracenia purpurea has captivated both botanists and plant enthusiasts alike. Its striking pitcher-shaped leaves, adorned with shades of deep purple and vivid red veins, serve as elegant traps for unsuspecting insects, lured by nectar and downward-facing hairs that prevent escape.
Care The Sarracenia purpurea requires a consistently moist environment, mimicking its natural habitat. It is very much advised to water the plant with distilled water or rainwater, as tap water often contains minerals that can harm its sensitive root system. It thrives in full sun, so placing it in a sunny location is crucial. However, care must be taken to avoid extreme heat, as it can damage the plant. During the growing season, it is essential to keep the pitchers filled with water. Lastly, to maintain the plant's vitality, occasional feeding with live insects, such as small flies or ants, can supplement its nutrient requirements.
Size The plants have a height of 10cm upon delivery (measured incl. pot). The plants are supplied in pots with a diameter/diameter of 5.5cm.
