Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Karl Foerster', also known as ostrich cane, is a popular ornamental grass because of its fine growth habit, beautiful flowering and graceful leaves. The grass can be recognised by its narrow grey-green leaves that grow upwards in a compact manner. The grass flowers from June to August with beautiful red-bronze flower spikes that turn a golden brown colour in autumn. Calamagrostis Karl Foerster is hardy and deciduous. However, the golden-brown plumes remain erect in winter, making the grass a beautiful addition to the garden all year round. The grass is very well suited to being planted in a group, but also comes out well as a solitary.
Care Calamagrostis acutiflora prefers a sunny spot, but also does well in semi-shade. The grass does not like dry feet, so water it at least twice a week in dry periods. The spent barren stems are best pruned in March/April.
Size The plant has a height of 40-60cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 23cm.
