Echinacea purpurea, also known as coneflower, is a favourite of many gardeners. Its beautiful flowers are characterised by their size and colour: a combination of an orange-brown centre surrounded by contrasting pink petals. Even when the flowering period is over and the petals hang down discoloured, this flower still has high ornamental value. During the flowering period, it is a draw for countless bumblebees and butterflies. The plants bloom from June to September and are very popular with bumblebees and butterflies during that period. The flowers grow about 70-80 cm tall. The rhizomes can be planted from November to April.

Care
Echinacea is an easy plant to look after. It prefers a sunny spot in fertile, not too wet soil. The plant tolerates drought quite well if it is in full soil and well rooted. Give this plant a layer of 3 to 4 centimetres of compost every autumn so that it does not have to fight too much with other species for nutrients.
