Acer palmatum 'Cascade Gold' is a very special Japanese maple, mainly because of its unique shape. Unlike most other Japanese maples, the Acer Cascade Gold grows in a strongly drooping manner. Without a trunk, it would almost be a groundcover plant. The Acer Cascade Gold is a narrow plant with full-length drooping twigs. The beautiful star-shaped leaves are green in summer and change to spectacular orange-red fall colors in fall. In late fall/early winter, the plant goes dormant and will lose its leaves. In spring, the Acer will regain new green leaves. The plant is hardy.
Care Japanese maples can best be planted from March to the beginning of October. The soil is warmer and the plants can easily root during this period. Japanese maples are strong plants but in a windy location the leaves can easily get damaged. Therefore, put the Acer in a sheltered place. The plant prefers a spot in the semi-shade, preferably with not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can cause the roots and leaves to dry out, which can lead to leaf damage. A Japanese Maple is not evergreen, which means that it loses its leaves during the winter. However, this plant is very hardy and will sprout again in March with beautiful new leaves.
Size The plant has a height of 80-90cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 19cm.
